10 Year Anniversary of NAFTA

On December 9-10, The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars hosted a two-day conference at RRB/ITC celebrating the 10th anniversary of the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement. More than 800 people gathered to explore the impact of NAFTA and hear presentations from the original signers, President George Bush, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and President Carlos Salinas de Gortari.

Changes to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform

On July 21, RRB/ITC welcomed President Barack Obama, Senator Chris Dodd, Representative Barney Frank, Representative Steny Hoyer, for the signing of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform. Department of Commerce National Summit on American Competitiveness

On September 18, RRB/ITC hosted the Department of Commerce National Summit on American Competitiveness. The meeting focused on promoting innovation and economic development across the United States. The agenda included discussions on the competitive challenge for America, skill-sets for education and workforce, innovation partnerships, and energy independence.

“Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq” HBO Documentary Screening

On September 5, RRB/ITC hosted the screening of HBO-documentary “Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq.” This film, produced by ‘Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini features interviews conducted by the actor himself of ten severely wounded Marines and other soldiers. They discuss their “alive day” experience which they consider the day they narrowly escaped death in Iraq. On June 21 – June 22, RRB/ITC hosted the AFCEA Homeland Security Conference. This two-day conference brings together the people in charge of ensuring success of preparation, prevention and planning recovery from the unimaginable. The Ronald Reagan Building has hosted this conference since 2004.

U.S. Missile Defense Agency Conference

On March 26-28, RRB/ITC hosted the 10th Annual Missile Defense Conference by the American Institute of Aeronatutics and Astronauts. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency strives to provide a world-class secure environment for the missile defense community to meet. The conference provides guests service priorities, technical advances and access to the current state of the worldwide Ballistic Missile Defense System. The Ronald Reagan Building has proudly been hosting this conference since 2003.

“Sex in the City” Hosted by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton

On July 16, the Pavilion in RRB/ITC hosted Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and radio personal Jeannie Jones for their meeting on HIV/AIDS. During this forum they sought out to bring issues out of the shadows that stand in the way of stronger trusting relationships. A series of meetings and testing booths were held to raise awareness of the alarmingly high rates of HIV infection.

Goodwill Industries Fashion Show

On May 28, RRB/ITC hosted the annual Goodwill Industries Fashion Show and Gala. Over 400 donors and politicians were seated in the Atrium for the runway show which showcased some of the most unique items that have been donated throughout the year. “Dialogue” Art Project Installation

On May 13, the Woodrow Wilson Plaza at RRB/ITC hosted the “Dialogue” project art installation.“Dialogue” featured ten freestanding screens covered with inspirational quotes from people throughout history. This art installation intercepted people on their normal routine in hopes of inspiring viewers to reflect on current events.

National Day of Mourning for Ronald Reagan

On June 11, President George W. Bush declared a national day of mourning for former President Ronald Reagan. On June 5, 2004, Ronald Reagan passed away in Los Angeles, CA from pneumonia that was brought on by Alzheimer’s.  A funeral service was held at the Washington National Cathedral on June 11.
