The DC Beijing Day Cultural Festival was held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in conjunction with the DC Mayors Office, to celebrate 35 years of DC’s Sister City cultural connection to Beijing. To kick off the festival, a reception and concert was held the night before with special guest speakers including Andrew Gelfuso, VP of TCMA and Director of WTCDC; Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, DC; Secretary Kimberly Bassett, Secretary of Washington, DC; H.E. Cui Tiankai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the US and Lin Keqing, Vice Mayor of Beijing. Highlights from the two-day celebration included a concert performed entirely in Mandarin from Alice Deal Middle School, a traditional “Chinese Lion Dance,” Chinese food tastings, tea ceremonies, paper cutting, live guqin performances and so much more.
