On October 31, the Woodrow Wilson Plaza came to life for our annual Fall Festival in collaboration with the DowntownDC BID! Free and open to the public, locals, tourists and passersby came together to celebrate fall’s arrival to the District!
The festival kicked off with the annual pumpkin display contest put on by TCMA (A Drew Company). Over-the-top pumpkin creations were presented to the public – where Fall Festival attendees were encouraged to vote for their favorite display. Some of the themes this year included Game of Thrones, Haunted Candyland, Ghost Busters and Day of the Dead, with Ghost Busters taking first place.
Attendees warmed up from the brisk fall weather with a delicious cup of hot cider as they took in all of the sights and festivities happening on the Plaza. The TCMA grill was open serving up burgers, chicken sandwiches and bratwurst alongside DMV Empanadas and DelMarVa Kettle Corn. Costumed stilt walkers floated around, interacting with the crowd and posing for multiple photos as children raced through the hay bale maze in excitement to reach the end. This year an interactive animal petting zoo was added to the line-up of activities, which brought joy to people of all ages. A teacup pig, tortoise, multiple bunny rabbits and ducks were among the zoo animals present; it was no surprise that Snuggles, the teacup pig, was a crowd favorite! Other festivities included a pumpkin decorating table sponsored by Blick Art Materials, face painting and the DC Public Library Book Bike filled with books available for check out.
