Q: Tell us about your background and past experience.
Before joining RRBITC, I was the Event Sales Manager for the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center at the University of Maryland in College Park. From weddings and mitzvahs to fundraisers and galas, I handled several types of events in this venue and wore many hats such as assisting with sales and marketing. Prior to that, I was a Sales Associate at Wedding Wire in Chevy Chase, MD and there I had the opportunity to learn about all the various vendors and services available for couples planning weddings. Last but not least, it was my role as Group Sales Supervisor for the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore where I started specializing in weddings. With a unique location and uncommon venue space, my creativity and dynamic approach with clients shined in this role.
Q: Where are you from/ What state are you native to?
I hail from the great state of Hawaii. Since my dad was in the Coast Guard, we moved several times. Maryland is my 7th state, but I’ve been in the DMV the most years and this is home base.
Q: What is something you love or like to do in your free time?
I enjoy playing tourist in DC, especially at night; it’s when the city really shines! I also love traveling. Recently I was able to bring my husband and sons to Hawaii; I showed them where I used to live. We enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and the beaches! In my free time on the weekends, brunch with my husband and friends is a must.
Q: What do you think are the best photo ops in DC for engagement photos?
My top 5 engagement spots are: WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Union Station, the U.S. National Arboretum, and of course, RRBITC’s Woodrow Wilson Plaza.
Q: What are your favorite DMV date spots?
RPM Italian DC for its chic ambiance and fresh pastas made in-house. DLeña, a modern Mexican restaurant by acclaimed chef, Richard Sandoval. They also have excellent brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Lastly, a DC classic, Ben’s Chili Bowl.
Q: What do you love most about planning weddings?
I love getting to know my couples, understanding their personalities and visions, becoming their fairy godmother, and bringing their wedding dreams to life.
Q: Many couples are now planning for weddings that will take place in 2023. What’s the best advice you can give them?
We are anticipating another busy year ahead as the pandemic has become more manageable. I advise couples to plan even more ahead and have conversations with their vendors early in the process.
My other advice relates to choosing a venue. A couple usually selects a venue that aligns with their vision and aesthetic. Another important aspect to consider is the photo spots the venue offers. Photos will be lasting mementos and something that you will always look back on or display. Make sure you love the space and backdrops for your photos!
At RRBITC, our venue offers an iconic landscape of downtown DC. With a contemporary design, sophisticated interiors and breathtaking views overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue, I can help you find the space you are looking for your special day!
