Woodrow Wilson Plaza came to life as we kicked off summertime in the city at our annual appreciation event, Sparkle Lounge. A change from years past, the 2019 event took place outdoors on the beautifully tented plaza just as Washingtonians prepared to welcome the official start of the new season. Within a gorgeous tent, guests were transported to an urban Botanical Garden that featured two distinct spaces: a Miami-esque room with lush, tropical décor and a calming Zen garden complete with low seating, paper lanterns and a sand garden.
Upon arrival into the tent, party-goers were drawn into the high energy, tropical space featuring a center piece of foliage and lush greenery hanging from the ceiling with the words “Summer Sparkle Vibes” prominently displayed in bright pink hues. Here, guests indulged in freshly squeezed Sparkle Citrus Crushes, a grilled oyster station, and cooling floral-themed desserts from the anti-griddle. Walking past layered draping, guests entered a calming oasis in the form of our Zen garden, where food stations echoed the plant theme: beet tartare (a playful twist on the traditional beef tartare), botanical and plant-inspired cupcakes and a signature cocktail complete with floral ice cubes was passed throughout the event space.
There was no shortage of photo opportunities on hand at the uniquely Instagram-able event. Groups gathered under an LED lit structure surrounded by live plants for their chance to capture the perfect photo, boomerang and gif courtesy of Booth-o-Rama's photo booth in the Tropical space. Guests were encouraged to use the hashtag #SummerSparkleVibes throughout the night on social media – they could then pick up a hard copy of their social media post from the Photoboxx printer on-site, which provided a unique interactive element.
Other event activations included hand-drawn watercolor coasters from local artist, Samantha Testa, owner of Painted Palettes. Guests could choose from designs that reflected the event theme (lush greenery with flamingos, stacked stones with bamboo) or opt for a personalized drawing.
This event was the perfect way to welcome summertime in the city! When leaving the event, guests not only walked away with photos and personalized mementos from the night, but also a new take on how Woodrow Wilson Plaza can be transformed into a sparkling event space
