Each May, World Trade Month highlights the vital role international trade plays in driving economic growth, fostering innovation, and strengthening relationships across borders. As Washington, DC's gateway to the global business community, World Trade Center Washington, DC is committed to advancing international commerce, connecting public and private sector leaders, and creating opportunities for meaningful global engagement.
Throughout May and into early June, WTCDC celebrated World Trade Month by hosting, sponsoring, attending, and supporting a diverse series of events that brought together diplomats, business leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and international partners. From trade discussions and diplomatic exchanges to cultural celebrations and networking opportunities, each event reflected our mission to connect Washington to the world and promote international collaboration.
The following timeline highlights the programs, partnerships, and conversations that defined our World Trade Month activities, showcasing the people and organizations working together to strengthen global connections and expand opportunities for trade, investment, and cooperation.

Strengthening Transatlantic Connections:
WTC Dublin Delegation
World Trade Month activities began with our longstanding partnership with World Trade Center Dublin as we welcomed a delegation of Irish business and education leaders to Washington, DC. As part of the visit, delegates engaged with leaders from the public, private, and academic sectors, creating opportunities for dialogue around international business collaboration, innovation, and economic growth.
To further strengthen these international relationships, WTCDC hosted the District of Conversation Dinner, an evening designed to bring together local changemakers, global executives, and international partners in a setting that encouraged authentic conversation. Joined by the Ireland Gateway to Europe delegation, the evening created a unique platform for cross-border dialogue and collaboration, and demonstrated how bringing people together can strengthen partnerships, and create lasting impact.

As part of our World Trade Month programming, WTCDC supported the Embassy of Tanzania's Union Day Business Luncheon, which welcomed guests from the diplomatic, government, business, and international development communities. The event commemorated Tanzania's 62nd National Day while providing a platform for meaningful dialogue on trade, and economic cooperation between Tanzania and the United States.
The luncheon highlighted Tanzania's continued economic growth and emergence as a leading investment destination in East Africa, with discussions focused on infrastructure modernization, regional connectivity, energy development, and expanding commercial opportunities.

Continuing our World Trade Month focus on international engagement and cross-border collaboration, WTCDC was honored to host His Excellency David Kerich, Ambassador of Kenya to the United States, for an evening conversation with the Washington Intergovernmental Professional Group (WIPG). Ambassador Kerich shared insights into Kenya's economic landscape, highlighting the country's strong investment climate and the trade opportunities available to U.S. companies seeking to engage with East Africa.
The event brought together diplomats, business leaders, government officials, and international stakeholders for a discussion focused on Kenya's growing role as a regional economic hub and the expanding opportunities for U.S.-Kenya collaboration.

Sustainability, Diplomacy, and Innovation:
World Bee Day
WTCDC partnered with the Embassy of Slovenia to celebrate World Bee Day through a series of events highlighting sustainability, environmental stewardship, and international collaboration. Highlighting a 600 year tradition of beekeeping, the celebration began with a Slovenian-themed exhibition on Wilson Plaza during Capital Harvest on the Plaza (CHoP), where visitors explored Slovenian honey products, , cultural displays, and educational materials focused on pollinator awareness.
The centerpiece of the program was a panel discussion and reception hosted with WTCDC. Through remarks from DC Government officials, international leaders, and the local beekeeping community, the event demonstrated how shared environmental challenges create opportunities for global cooperation, knowledge exchange, and innovative solutions.

Bringing Diplomats Together:
WITA Embassy Ministers’ Network Breakfast
As a proud partner with the Washington International Trade Association (WITA), WTCDC hosted the second Embassy and Ministry Network (EMN) Breakfast Briefing of the year, welcoming approximately 25 diplomatic officials representing 20 embassies. Co-hosted by WITA and WTCDC, the convening provided a focused forum for trade diplomats to engage with subject matter experts on the U.S. trade agenda, emerging economic trends, and key developments shaping global commerce.
The EMN Breakfast Briefing series serves as an important platform for fostering meaningful dialogue, strengthening international partnerships, and building connections across the diplomatic, business, and policy communities.

Empowering Future Global Citizens: Embassy Adoption Program Reception
Through our partnership with Washington Performing Arts and DC Public Schools, WTCDC welcomed more than 200 students to the Mini United Nations, the capstone event of the Embassy Adoption Program. The program brought together students from across the District, giving them the opportunity to step into the role of diplomats and engage in meaningful discussions on global challenges.
The Mini United Nations experience highlighted the importance of education and youth engagement in shaping the next generation of global leaders. By exploring the impact of climate change on their adopted countries, students developed critical thinking and communication skills while gaining a deeper appreciation of the role of diplomacy in addressing global issues.

Where Global Leadership Meets Opportunity:
African Leaders & Partners Summit 2026
As World Trade Month concluded, WTCDC continued its focus on strengthening U.S.–Africa economic ties by spotlighting the upcoming African Leaders & Partners Summit 2026. The initiative reflected ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration across trade, industrial policy, investment, and economic security, while reinforcing the importance of sustained engagement between the United States and African partners.
The summit, convened by EBII Group Corp. in partnership with WTCDC and the Government of the District of Columbia, brought together policymakers, diplomats, business leaders, development finance institutions, and private sector executives from both Africa and the United States.
Under the theme “U.S.– Africa Engagement in a Global Context: Trade, Industrial Policy, and Investment & Risk Alignment,” discussions centered on manufacturing, energy security, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and investment opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

World Trade Month once again underscored the breadth and importance of international engagement across trade, diplomacy, sustainability, education, global business development, and strategic partnerships. Throughout the month and beyond, conversations and convenings highlighted how these interconnected areas continue to shape economic growth and strengthen relationships between nations, industries, and institutions.
From welcoming international delegations and embassy leaders to advancing dialogue on sustainability, investment, innovation, and economic opportunity, World Trade Month demonstrated the enduring value of bringing people together across borders and sectors. Each program reflected the shared mission of the WTCA, a global network dedicated to fostering international trade, supporting economic development, and creating meaningful connections that drive long-term prosperity.
