TEDWomen: First Women’s Conference

On December 7, 2011 RB/ITC hosted the first-ever TEDWomen Conference, which brought together women from around the world to share their stories, ideas, and experiences through a series of TED Talks. This global event aimed to celebrate and amplify the voices of women and girls, who have historically been underrepresented in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). TEDWomen is a conference about the power of women to be creators and change-makers. The program of speakers, workshops, events – and daring discussions- has sparked some of TED’s most iconic moments yet.

Pink Jams! Pink Rocks the Runway

On October 21, 2011 RB/ITC hosted Pink Rocks the Runway, an annual breast cancer awareness fashion show presented by PINK JAMS! The event featured fashions from local designer Christian Siriano. PINK JAMS!, is a Washington, D.C. area project combining live music events, arts and fashion with the promotion of breast cancer awareness.

On June 15, RRB/ITC hosted the 2nd Conference, Africa: 53 Countries, One Union, The New Challenges, a two-day conference by the Africa Program of the Woodrow Wilson Center and the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University with opening remarks given by Congressman Chris Smith, chairman of the House Africa, Global Health and Human Rights Subcommittee.

US-China Business Forum

On January 19, RRB/ITC hosted the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) at the 2011 US-China Business Forum, an important event that brought together business leaders, government officials, and experts from both China and the United States to discuss economic and trade issues. The event was attended by more than 600 business leaders, government officials, and academics, including top executives from leading Chinese and American companies.

Fight for Children’s School Night

On April 23, 2010 RRB/ITC hosted Fight for Children’s annual fundraiser School Night with special guest, Queen Latifah who served as the evening’s MC and headliner. Fight For Children is a pillar in the DC philanthropic community. Founded in 1990, it’s mission focuses on improving the lives of underserved children in the nation’s capital and rallies leaders in public and private sectors to develop long-lasting, scalable solutions to many of the issues affecting children in Washington, DC.

Hillary Clinton Swears in New USAID Administrator

On January 7, RRB/ITC hosted the swearing-in ceremony of the new USAID Administrator, Dr. Rajiv Shah, with Secretary Hillary Clinton. This was a significant moment for Dr. Shah and the USAID community, and it was a testament to the agency’s critical role in promoting U.S. foreign policy and humanitarian efforts around the world. Secretary Clinton’s presence at the event demonstrated the importance of the work being done by USAID and the U.S. government’s commitment to international development.

DC Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight

On November 11, guests filled the Atrium of RRB/ITC for D.C. Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight. Since 2005, RRB/ITC has hosted this annual event. Here, guests taste food and drink from some of DC’s best restaurants. Local chefs competed in an iron-chef-style battle judged by Anthony Bourdain, Tom Colicchio and Michael Mina. DC Central Kitchen is a nonprofit developer that breaks the cycle of hunger and poverty. 100% of the proceeds from Capital Food Fight combat hunger in Washington, D.C.

Live! After Dark

On September 29, the world-renowned pioneers of psychedelic soul, The Temptations, performed their greatest hits in the heart of DC as part of a special “After Dark” series of the Live! Concert Series on the Plaza. From salsa to strings, and blues to swing, Live! features diverse sounds and performances throughout the summer. Launched in 2000 as part of RRB/ITC’s mission to offer free public programming on Wilson Plaza, the program helps create a stronger community feel in Downtown DC and remains an annual summer event.

Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003

President Bush signs into law the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 in the Amphitheater at RRB/ITC. A heavily debated bill that was passed by Congress (64 to 34 Senate vote) that bans a specific procedure that was used to terminate pregnancies in the second and third trimester.
