Iron Chef Competition on Woodrow Wilson Plaza

Only July 5, 2002, the Ronald Reagan Building hosted an “Iron Chef” style competition on Woodrow Wilson Plaza. The competition kicked off the summer concert series Live! which is held every day around noon. Iron Chef Chen Kenichi battled two local chefs in a competition based off the popular television show filmed in Japan. “Iron Chef” showcases chefs from across the globe battling Japan’s most skilled chefs in a head-to-head competition specializing in different food categories.

Swearing in Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff

On March 3, 2005, President George W. Bush took the stage in the Atrium of the Ronald Reagan Building with Michael Chertoff and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to swear in Chertoff as Secretary of Homeland Security. Chertoff co-authored the PATRIOT Act that was signed into law by President Bush in October 2001.

Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003

President Bush signs into law the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 in the Amphitheater at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. A heavily debated bill that was passed by Congress (64 to 34 Senate vote) that bans a specific procedure that was used to terminate pregnancies in the second and third trimester.

NATO 50th Anniversary Summit

While the Summit took place at the Mellon Auditorium, the event’s Media Centre was located at the RRB/ITC, where current President Bill Clinton hosted a press conference and later a working lunch in the Pavilion Room for the North Atlantic Council.
